The Joy Connection's Adapted Aquatics Program provides individualized aquatic instruction and meaningful
water experiences for children, teens, and adults with disabilities. Instruction begins with the individual's
abilities, needs, comfort level, and goals.
Instruction may address water adjustment and comfort; safe entry and exit; water safety; breath control;
floating and body positioning; propulsion and beginning swimming; stroke development; strength and
endurance; coordination and motor development; independence; and recreational swimming.
The Joy Connection works to reduce barriers to aquatic participation through grants, donations, community
partnerships, transportation assistance, trained instructors, lifeguards, assistants, and volunteers.
The Joy Connection is committed to training and mentoring additional instructors and assistants in adapted
aquatic instruction so the program can continue and expand while preserving individualized support.
Community support helps cover pool rental, lifeguards, transportation, specialized instruction, trained
assistants, and program equipment.
