Cortland was an energetic, athletic, and charismatic young man. He was a son, a brother, and a friend to many. He enjoyed various activities like skateboarding, surfing, diving, boxing, and hockey. He was a fierce competitor, funny, kind, and lived a minimalist life.
Cortland didn’t attach himself to material things. Not even a phone. All he really wanted was a pair of Nike’s every 3 months because he wore them out so fast!
As any true San Diego local, his favorite foods were California burritos and burgers. In fact, whenever his mom would go to Jack in the Box, the cashier would see her and say, “I know, I know, 2 jumbo jacks for your son!”
Since Cortland’s passing, not a day goes by that he isn’t thought of and honored within the memories of his family and friends. He lives on through those who carry his memory.
The Joy Connection will be honoring Cortland’s love for sports by naming our building the “Cortland Grantham Memorial Sports and Enrichment Center.”

Cortland era un joven enérgico, atlético y carismático. Era un hijo, un hermano y un amigo para muchos. Disfrutó de diversas actividades como andar en patineta, surfear, bucear, boxear y hockey. Era un competidor feroz, divertido, amable y vivía una vida minimalista.
Cortland no se apegó a las cosas materiales. Ni siquiera un teléfono. ¡Todo lo que realmente quería era un par de Nike cada 3 meses porque se los gastaba muy rápido!
Como cualquier verdadero local de San Diego, sus comidas favoritas eran los burritos y las hamburguesas de California. De hecho, cada vez que su madre iba a Jack in the Box, el cajero la veía y decía: “¡Lo sé, lo sé, 2 jumbo jacks para tu hijo!”.
Desde la muerte de Cortland, no pasa un día sin que se le considere y se le honre en los recuerdos de su familia y amigos. Él vive a través de aquellos que llevan su memoria.
Joy Connection honrará el amor de Cortland por los deportes nombrando a nuestro edificio "Cortland Grantham Memorial Sports and Enrichment Center".
